GREEK MINISTRY OF EDUCATION WEBSITE ACCESSIBILITY REPORT

1. Introduction
This report assesses the accessibility of the website of the Greek Ministry of Education in accordance with the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG 2.1).

3. Availability Level
According to WCAG 2.1 guidelines, the website was assessed for accessibility level:
– B- average level of accessibility of the website. The website has facilities for people with disabilities, however, they are very few and not done in a professional manner.
4. Audit Results
During an audit conducted on the website of the Greek Ministry of Education, the following accessibility issues were identified:
A
No alternative text descriptions for non-visual content such as images and multimedia.

B
Lack of adequate colour contrast on some page elements, making reading difficult for people with visual difficulties.

C
Not all functions are accessible via keyboard, making navigation and interaction difficult for those with mouse limitations:
-no ability to switch between articles and forms using arrows
-no ability to submit forms using the Enter key
D
Insufficient text readability due to incorrect font size and page layout.

E
Lack of appropriate heading tags and logical document structure, which affects navigation and comprehension of content for people using screen readers.


F
Insufficient clarity and consistency of language and pronunciation across the site, making it difficult to use for people with communication difficulties.
5. Recommendations
Based on the audit results, the following recommendations are proposed to improve the accessibility of the website:
A. Add appropriate alternative text descriptions for all non-visual content, such as images and multimedia.
B. Improve color contrast on page elements to meet readability requirements.
C. Ensure keyboard accessibility to all features and improve overall accessibility for users with disabilities.
D. Increase text readability by adjusting font size and page layout.
E. Improve heading tags and document structure to facilitate navigation and comprehension for users using screen readers.
F. Provide tools and instructions to enable people with disabilities to use interactive elements of the website.
G. Improve clarity and consistency of language and pronunciation on the website.
6. Summary
This report is an analysis of the accessibility of the Greek Ministry of Education website in accordance with the WCAG 2.1 guidelines. Implementation of the recommended improvements will help to increase the accessibility and usability of the website for all users, regardless of their cognitive and motor skills.
